Hana Pestle, in a 2009 performance in Billings, sings a duet with her sister, Skyler. The singer/songwriter returns to Billings to perform on Friday, Dec. 16 at the Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co.

With a brand new EP in hand, singer/songwriter Hana Pestle will return to her hometown of Billings for a holiday concert Friday, Dec. 16. She took a few minutes from her relentless touring schedule to discuss her new tunes, life on the road, and returning home for the holidays.

I see you’ve got a new EP released recently! How has it been received?
Yes! I am so proud of my EP “For The Sky.” I spent the entire summer locked up in my house creating it. It’s the first time I’ve ever produced anything, so it was a learning experience and I loved every minute. It’s also my first release in two years, so I was very excited to have new music out in the world. My sound has evolved and so there was a small part of me that was scared people wouldn’t enjoy the change. But the response cleared away any and all anxiety I had. People have been loving it, and it thrills me.

Do you plan a follow-up full length?
I’m still not sure. I like the idea of releasing more EP’s more often rather than waiting longer to release an album. Now that I can produce my own stuff, I really just want to be creating and releasing constantly.

Tell me about this upcoming hometown show?
It’s always the best feeling to be coming home to play a show for all my friends and family. I’m very excited to play my new songs that I haven’t played in Billings yet! My sister Skyler will be joining me on stage again, so that always makes me incredibly excited. I love it when she performs with me.

How is life on the road?
Life is amazing! I have been out for four months and have been having a blast. Playing colleges has been a ton of fun and totally fulfilling, and I have been making a lot of friends on the campuses. But now it’s getting incredibly cold (5 degrees in Minnesota currently) and my desire to be at home by the fire is kicking in. (December 9) is my last show of the tour and then I’ll be back in Big Sky Country! I feel so grateful and lucky for still being able to do this for a living and am already excited for next year’s tour!

Catch Hana Pestle in an all-ages performance at Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co. on Friday, December 16. Doors open at 5 p.m. with a $5 admittance. “Dogs welcome, hugs required.”
