Café De Camp- Winter Menu…Yum

For months we’ve been driving by Café DeCAmp promising ourselves we had to see (taste) what all the fuss was about. A small and intimate venue, I kept checking the how full the parking lot was, because they don’t take reservations. Well, we couldn’t wait any longer and we’re so glad we didn’t!
The interior is definitely still cozy and close quarters. So, why not sit at the bar and watch Jason at work? The salads were fresh and when I finally settled on the “Montana Forest Mushroom Pasta” (Shiitake, Oyster, Chanterelle, Hedgehog &/or Nameko Mushrooms sautéed in a toasted Rosemary Sage dust with Mesquite Smoked Tomatoes, Honey Garlic Confit, toasted Walnuts, Amaltheia Smoked Chevre, Pecorino Romano, Pappardelle and Truffle Oil-21.00 w/ choice of soup or salad), I was blown away by the fresh and distinct flavors. And finally, someone that knows how to cook pasta al dente! Squishy, mushy and overcooked pasta is a pet peeve of mine- albeit a minor one- but still always disappointed when a pasta dish sounds great, only to have it delivered as a pile of mush. This dish was definitely the BEST pasta dish I have ever had. Really… the BEST.
Breaking some dumb wine rules that someone long ago decided that I should follow, I had a glass of red Flathead Cherry Dry from the Ten Spoon Winery with my pasta. I even spared myself the predictable headache (sulfites) by having an organic choice. (Thanks guys!)
Todd, my husband, devoured the hand-cut Montana Wagyu beef flat iron steak with a Widow Maker beer from Red Lodge Ales- but not before I stole a bite. So good! Yeah, I know it is well past the first of year, but I still would have had a desert crepe and lied to myself that I would go to the gym in the morning. Sadly, I was stuffed. Having vacillated between the soup and salad at the very beginning of the evening, I decided to ask for a taste soup instead. (Candied salmon with seabass, shrimp purple barley and apple.) Are you kidding me? Of course, that was ridiculously good too.
We may actually get some winter this year. Support local businesses and get yourself over to Café DeCamp and try out the fresh winter menu!
