A Quick Friday Night Jaunt
Getting ready for two photo shoots this weekend and camping did not leave me a lot of time this evening to check out the goings on in downtown Billings.
BUT, they were worth checking out so I made a little tour downtown. (After I returned to my house because I forgot to put a card in my camera…goofus…)
I hit the Billings Police and Fire Department’s rib cook off at the Rock Pile first. Money gathered goes to benefit Special Olympics. Big Caboose and the Soul Penetrators were playing. Totally great event and if you missed it, I suggest you still donate to Special Olympics and actually, our local heros can always use donations!
On my way to the Art Walk, I came across Montana Rescue Mission’s set up for Hopefest 2012. There were fire dancers and live music. Parked in their space was a Sportsman’s Classic camping trailer you can win and a sign up for their Bed Race on September 8th. This race looks rad and the team that wins- get this- each member gets to chose between 4 nights in Vegas or 2 nights to see the Denver Broncos or the Seattle Seahawks! Second place winning teams get $400 gift certificates to local businesses each and $200 gift certificates to the third place winners. Really great prizes and it would be a heck of a lot of fun to build a bed and race it! Mattressland USA is holding a build a bed workshop August 16,17 and 18.
I hit up a few artists above The Carlin. Jason Jam- cartoonist and Ellen Kuntz- photographer. Both fantastic. Jason has been at the cartoon game for years and I had a lot of laugh out loud moments perusing his witty work. Ellen is a self taught photographer who has been snapping moody shots for about 2 years now.
( that’s just a dude walking into Jason’s show- it’s not Jason fyi…)

And now back to packing and organizing gear. Enjoy your weekend!
