TRX Training may be your new workout for Fall
As the season changes we know to expect a change in temperature as well as a change in fashion. There is yet another thing our culture has learned to anticipate—a new fitness craze! Although TRX suspension training has been around a few years now, it may very well be this fall’s new workout challenge. And it does challenge! Suspension training brings a whole new realm to the old theme of functional bodyweight training. The only thing one needs is the versatile yellow and black straps, a sturdy place to hook it to and a body willing to get worked in new and exciting ways. Everything else is left up to gravity. Think of it as a battle of your body against gravity’s forces!
Many dynamic movements that combine strength, coordination, flexibility, power and stability are utilized to give you a workout like no other single piece of equipment can give. Depending on an individual’s limitations, whether due to an injury, lack of balance or range of motion issues, a program can be designed to challenge any fitness level. Because of these qualities, suspension training really is for anyone and everyone.
“But, what about my core”? For every workout modality this question arises from most people. Everyone wants to have a strong midsection. With suspension training it is core work ALL OF THE TIME! There is no machine backrest or seat to support you. Your own muscles are forced to stabilize the movements, thus recruiting and conditioning ones that don’t typically get a lot of attention. Workouts can include traditional squats, pushups, pull-ups, planks, and sit-ups, but the added addition of being suspended helps engage those accessory muscles. In addition to the traditional exercises, unique moves are typically integrated into a workout session. Resistance and intensity is easily manipulated by changing body angle and foot stance.
If this all sounds exciting to you, one of the easiest ways you can get involved is to take a class. Here, a group leader will take you through a variety movements designed to familiarize you with the action of a simple move as well as help you progress to and master more complicated sequences. The month of October is the perfect month for you to get started. Group classes at Anytime Fitness’s 3 locations are being offered free for members as well as non-members in celebration of 10 years in business as a corporation.
Check out this sample of some easy and more challenging exercises that can be performed. Some may look easy from this view, but when doing them they can be surprising demanding!
