Product number 1:  Elderberry Syrup

Elderberry has been used globally for centuries as an effective immune booster. It has powerful properties and is also safe for all ages to consume. It has been proven to be safe for pregnant and lactating women. Rebecca recommends checking with your physician if you are pregnant and/or suffering from other serious health issues before you ingest anything meant for medicinal purposes. Here is an informative excerpt from herbwisdom.com on Elderberry: “Bioflavonoids and other proteins in the juice destroy the ability of cold and flu viruses to infect a cell. People with the flu who took elderberry juice reported less severe symptoms and felt better much faster than those who did not. Elderberry juice was used to treat a flu epidemic in Panama in 1995.”

This product is a homeopathic remedy. “Homeopathy is Greek for similar disease. Minute doses of remedies are given that mimic disease, which stimulate the body’s defense mechanisms and create a natural line of immunity.” Wellness FluGuard pellets are taken by dissolving in the mouth up to four times daily. It contains interesting ingredients such as Veratrum Viride for high fever, neck pain and congestion, Kreosotum for chills and heavy chest cough, and Aconitum Napellus for head pain, constricted throat, vomiting, sweats and inflammation. This is also a safe and mild product for all ages. Again, if any question, consult your family physician.

The key to a healthy immune system is a healthy gut. Probiotics infuse your gastrointestinal system with health bacteria. Antibiotics, often necessary during flu season as viral turns bacterial, are awesome but can and will strip your gut of the healthy stuff. If you are already pushing back some antibiotics, consider adding some yogurt or a probiotic in the form of a capsule to restore balance. My all time favorite comes in the form of a drink: Kombucha. While it’s not for everyone, being a vinegary tasting fermented tea, it boosts my energy and keeps me healthy. I drink the Synergy brand almost daily.

As a massage therapist, I am going to add one more idea to the pile; keep your hands away from your face. I learned this tool during my training six years ago and it has served me well.
