The Billings Fringe Festival: Your Community’s Explosive Talent on Display
What IS a Fringe Festival? According to a post on Hollywoodfringe.org: “Fringe Festivals exist throughout the world as havens for underground and emerging arts scenes. The Fringe concept was incubated in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1947, eight performance groups appeared uninvited on the “fringes” of the exclusive Edinburgh International Festival. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has since grown into the largest arts festival in the world with hundreds of artists, thousands of performances, and millions of patrons every summer.”
Kicking off last night- 2013 marks the birth of The Billings Fringe Festival. It is put on by Venture Theatre and run by local dancer Bess Fredlund. Expect provocative and fabulous entertainment. The event is comprised of dance, spoken word, one-acts, performance art, comedy, live theatre and performance art presented by local and national artists.
Spread over two weekends with four venues on Montana Avenue and ridiculously affordable, there are plenty of opportunities to take in this goodness. There are performances occurring and repeating simultaneously both nights of both weekends. Get out and enjoy this remarkable entertainment!
