Ren’s Purl Yarn Boutique
A gorgeous, comfy space filled with light, color, and a bounty of knitting and crocheting supplies is Ren’s Purl Yarn Boutique. Owner Ren Dschaak says her clientele call it Ren’s, which has lead to the recent rebranding- adding her name to the front of Purl Yarn Boutique.
Opened in the spring of 2011, she had wanted to own a business since grade school days, especially one that created community, and so she chose a yarn shop because it fueled her own knitting passion and enabled her to share “a lifelong skill and build camaraderie among Billings women.” Regulars often drop in and work for hours on personal projects. The boutique plays host to both knitters and crocheters and there is ample product to serve both needs.
(Great patterns and ideas await your creativity!)
(There is a variety of ready-to-wear items available to purchase. I own and love three hats made by The Crooked Hook- look for the Jackalope tag!)
Ren has developed beginner crochet and knitting series designed to ease a student into learning a new craft and feel comfortable in a group setting. The no-pressure teaching style allows an individual to move at her or his own pace and still enjoy learning with others. Another priority is to help customers find what they need, be it at her store, another boutique, or online. The friendly atmosphere has drawn many women new to town who are looking for ways to connect. Casual gatherings and classes are usually multi-generational and Ren sees all ages pouring into her shop on a regular basis.
Every Saturday you can jump in on the Learn to Knit series at 10am and the Learn to Crochet series at 1pm. Group classes are $20 per two hour session and you can have a private class for $20 per hour. For the more experienced crafter, there is a Tool Box series and a 12 gifts of Christmas series.
(Every shop needs at least two cute mascots!)
Enjoy good company, learn something new, and find a new way to relax at Ren’s!
