Erik Wesley could accurately be described as a “jack of all trades”
when it comes to fitness and leisure. Upon being dealt a career-ending
Rugby injury in 2007, he has taken it upon himself to develop his
passion for athletics further and share his vast breadth of knowledge
with anyone he meets. Since tackling Samoans for a living is no longer
on the table, Erik has imbibed himself with healthy doses of road
cycling, rock climbing, boxing, capoeira and modern dance. His
greatest pleasure since moving to the state of Montana this Fall
however, has been the opportunity to return to his Norwegian roots and
take up Nordic skiing for the first time since his youth.
As far as the remainder of the saying is concerned, Erik doesnt lose
any sleep over being an “Ace of none.”
“When living and playing Rugby in Europe and Asia, I was able to
experience the single-mindedness that it takes to achieve success on
an elite level. This allows me to empathize with the focus and
discipline required to excel in endurance sports, as well as the
sacrifice required for young athletes to achieve. As far as myself is
concerned, at this point in the game it is far more interesting to me
to investigate the unifying principles behind all exercise, all
motion. Each sport has something unique to offer, yet they all involve
the same fundamental skill: coordination. For example, whether one is
executing a warrior pose in Yoga, or attempting to telemark ski for
the first time, you are talking about a stable lunge, and a lunge is a
lunge. East-Indians and Norwegians alike still have one set of hips, 2
knees, 2 ankles and 2 feet… at least the last time I checked.”
Eriks unique insight and holistic approach to fitness is
representative of his signature style as a trainer as well as a
writer.
