Kat Hobza was born in New Hampshire, but grew up in Victor, MT. Her father was a gunsmith and had 3 girls, so he decided to tuck them away in a mountain house accessible by 7 miles of Forest Service road. Suffice it to say that there was no “sneaking out” at night, lest Kat wanted to be eaten alive by a mountain lion.

It was here that Kat and her sisters honed their sense of humor and ability to make the most mundane of activities entertaining. That’s a fancy way of saying they were really freakin’ bored and there was no such thing as video games and the Internet.

Much has happened since those innocent days of Kat telling her sister that she was going inside for a minute, leaving her sister outside to sled alone, locking the doors behind her and pretending like she couldn’t hear her sister’s cries of distress whilst Kat cozied up with a steaming cup of hot chocolate. (Kat says, “It seemed super funny at the time. Don’t judge me. Again, Jen. I’m sorry.”)

Nowadays Kat cuts wisecracks through freelance writing. (Check out www.funnyfreelance.com.) At funny freelance Kat specializes in a unique voice and perspective, so that she is able to turn your idea, project or topic into something your audience hasn’t already read 600 times. We’re supposed to believe that a hot blonde (who’s cranked out two kids but manages to have the body of someone half her age) has to choose between two amazing, gorgeous hunks?  And that she met one of…

So Valentine’s Day has crept up on you, and you have absolutely no idea what to do.  If you’ve had several Valentine’s Days with the same person, the pressure may be on to do something you haven’t already…

So what was it going to be? Descendants or The Grey?  “Land baron reconnects with his daughters after wife dies in a boating accident” or “A group of outlaw oil-riggers’ plane crashes in remote Alaska.”  George Clooney or…

When I’m not checking out cool events in Billings, or scoping out new restaurants or businesses, I try to think of “Billings’ Best Kept Secrets” as blog material.  That’s the angle I’m taking this week with Signed, Sealed…

There’s really only one thing that can get me out of the house on a frigid Friday night.  In a word, that would be wine.  So when I received an e-vite from Yellowstone Cellars and Winery about Friday…

Much like your average Joe (or JoAnn, in this case), I’m not a real connoisseur of the arts.  I visit art galleries locally around the holidays and when I travel.  I appreciate hand-crafted items, as much for the time that…

There is just something about Montana Avenue and food that goes together.  I’m not sure what it is, but you’ve got to work pretty hard to find a bad meal in this part of town.  This is why…

In all the 15 years that I’ve lived in Billings, I’ve never driven around to look at the famously illuminated neighborhoods.  For years I’ve been hearing about Candy Cane Lane and Christmas Wreath Lane, but when it came…

I recently scaled back my cable TV package, which included DVR (same concept as TiVo- a DVR gives you the capability to record shows and fast-forward through commercials).  I now have to sit through commercials again.  You might…

Q:  Can a town have too many pizza places?

    A:  NEV-er

I have to admit, I was asking myself this very question as my son and I braved the elements to try Billings’ newest pizza place.  In the name of…
