November’s Top Ten Must-See Shows

October 31, 2016

Winter is finally starting to set in. For the live music scene in Billings, that certainly doesn’t mean the end. Usually, it just means more local musicians take the stage. Given our enormous wealth of talent, that’s never a bad thing! Here’s ten recommended concerts for your listening pleasure, in chronological order:

Every Sunday in November: Andy’s Open Jam

Andy’s Bar

Hosted by Adam Rutt (Omnithex, Vigilantes), this is not your ordinary open mic. A full band awaits you to join them on free blues/jazz/rock jams and covers. Any musicians in town should hit this up! You never know who might show up to rock out with you.

November 4th: Alder Lights and Silverbow Society

The Pub Station

Two of Billings’ youngest and fastest growing alternative rock bands take the Pub by storm to kick off the first weekend of the month. I’ve witnessed both bands getting large crowds and good reviews for a while now. Both of them have good sounding recent releases up on Facebook now and I encourage you to check them out!

November 5th: TransZend CD Release

Railyard

The Billings cover band fronted by longtime local singer songwriter Nathan North has the vibe of an original band for sure. Their material covers everything from Michael Jackson to Sublime and they execute the songs well. They do play originals as well, which they’ll be releasing on their first album this night.

November 12th: Blistered Earth and Walking Corpse Syndrome

The Pub Station

Blistered Earth is the Northwest’s top Metallica cover band. They present mostly classic tunes from the heavy metal giants and even LOOK like the most beloved lineup from the mid eighties. Walking Corpse Syndrome is a brutal dark metal band that has been making big waves out of Missoula with rave reviews from notoriously picky metal review sites like metalsucks.net. This show will blow any metal fan’s mind for sure.

November 13th: Sista Otis

Railyard

I have had the pleasure of seeing the NOLA-based songstress on a couple occasions and let me be clear – she has an incredible voice, powerful delivery and a welcoming vibe to her performance. If you like soul, folk, blues or rock, this show is for you!

November 15th: Swamp Ritual, Stranded By Choice, Tribe, Bull Market

The Loft Dance Club

A great and musically varied group of bands come together for a show at what could be considered a “new” venue in town. I say new because they’ve been exclusive to DJs for a long time. You’ll see punk, thrash, hard rock and sludge at this show. Grab a friend and support local bands at non traditional settings! It makes for a really fun experience.

November 23rd: Satsang and Reid Perry

The Pub Station

This is Satsang’s Billings show on their fall tour. They are one of the city’s most beloved acts for good reason. A soulful mix of reggae and folk with a touch of hip hop makes them very listenable. Reid Perry brings his distinctive alt country folk to the show as the opener.
